Prof. Aiping Lu

Professor Lu received his first degree in Chinese Medicine from the Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and obtained his master’s and PhD degrees from the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (now called the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, CACMS). In 1987 he joined the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. He was the Academy’s Director of Institute of Basic Theory and the Deputy Director of the Institute of Basic Research in Clinical Medicine of CACMS. From 2002 to 2006, he served as General Director of the National Pharmaceutical Engineering Centre for Solid Preparations (one of four centres in China in the field of traditional Chinese medicine). He has been invited to serve as Visiting Scholar in a number of institutions including Lund University in Sweden, Ohio State University in the United States, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Zhang Ge experienced his M.D. training in orthopedics & traumatology from Joint Program of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2000 to 2003. After obtaining his M.D. in Orthopedics & Traumatology, Dr. Zhang Ge had started his postdoctoral research in Department of Orthopedics & Traumatology in the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2004 to 2006. Thereafter, Dr. Zhang Ge was appointed as Research Assistant Professor by Department of Orthopedics & Traumatology in the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007. In 2012, Dr. Zhang Ge joined Hong Kong Baptist University. His research focus is in basic science & clinical translational research in orthopedics & traumatology, including osteoporosis, osteonecrosis, fracture repair osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Zhang has leaded his group to publish a series of research work in Nature MedicineArthritis & Rheumatism, Journal of Bone & Mineral ResearchBone and Osteoporosis International. An outstanding researcher, Professor Lu’s and Dr. Zhang research interests focus on the clinical evaluation with RCT focusing on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with TCM pattern diagnosis, standardization of Chinese medicine diagnosis, the association of Chinese medicine with the outcome of disease treatment, and research and development of new drugs. Pro. Lu has carried out several major research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC and so on. Prof Lu has published more than 300 articles and obtained more than 40 patents.

Prof Lu is regarded as a leading figure in the standardization of Chinese medicine diagnosis. Not only has he earned international reputation for his work, his distinguished achievements are also widely recognized through numerous awards and prizes received over years.
